About Pepperberry Nursery

The history of the nursery

Since our founding, Pepperberry Nursery has been dedicated to creating a warm, enriching space for early childhood development. Built on a foundation of passion and commitment to quality care, our nursery has grown to become a trusted place for families in the community. Discover how our journey shapes the nurturing environment we offer today.

Pepperberry Day Nurseries was founded by husband and wife team Gillian and Anthony Akaraonye, who together have 60 years’ experience (combined) of educating young people and working with families.

Mrs Akaraonye, a teacher with many years’ experience and widely known for the successful operation of a thriving tuition service, with a degree in Psychology from Liverpool University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education specialises in child development.

Mr Akaraonye is a former Assistant Director of Social Services (Head of Children and Families) for Liverpool City Council with over 35 years’ experience in working with children and family services at all levels, he is also a Governor at John Moores University in Liverpool.

This combination of education and welfare experience has been at the heart of Pepperberry Day Nurseries ethos from its very conception. Inspired by their work with children, Gillian and Anthony then set up their own full time Independent school for children aged 3-16 years in 1999 - Auckland College Independent School - an Outstanding Independent school in Liverpool.

The couple then established two nurseries for children aged 0-5 years, Auckland House Day Nursery in Liverpool that opened in 2009 and Pepperberry Day Nursery in Cheshire that opened in 2011.

Each child is treated as an individual and Gillian and Anthony know how to tailor their learning and development programmes to get the best from every child, whatever their needs.
